Combating smuggling and crime

The FOCBS also makes a significant contribution to Switzerland’s safety and security in the field of criminal prosecution and the fight against cross-border crime. In 2025, the FOCBS seized a total of around 1.6 million smuggled cigarettes — significantly more than in the previous year and twice as many as two years earlier.

Together with its partners in Switzerland and abroad, the FOCBS also makes an important contribution to Switzerland’s safety and security in the field of criminal prosecution and the fight against cross-border crime. Smuggled goods pose a problem for the country and the Swiss economy and may also present risks to the Swiss population.
