Organisation
The Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (FOCBS) ensures comprehensive border security.
It performs protection and control functions, collects customs duties and levies, and accounts for around a third of total federal receipts. By combating cross-border crime and irregular migration, the FOCBS also contributes to Switzerland's safety and security. Furthermore, it performs tasks in around 100 non-customs-related areas such as therapeutic products, species protection and trademark protection. It is part of the FOCBS's mandate to check goods, individuals and means of transport based on location and risk.
In organisational terms, the FOCBS is divided into six directorates, as well as the Internal Audit and Management Staff. The Operations and Prosecution directorates perform the core tasks of the FOCBS. In addition, there are the Digital Services, Policy, Risk Analysis and Analytics, and Resources directorates, which prepare the basis for the FOCBS to perform its core tasks.
