Lump-sum heavy vehicle charge (PSVA)

In Switzerland, a performance-related charge is payable for transport motor vehicles and trailers with a total weight exceeding 3.5 tonnes. This charge is levied as a lump sum for specific vehicle types. Various exceptions and special regulations also need your attention.

In Switzerland, a performance-related heavy vehicle charge is payable for transport motor vehicles and trailers with a total weight of over 3.5 tonnes each.

Vehicles on scheduled services

A licence from the Federal Office of Transport (FOT) is necessary for scheduled services.

Refunds for trips abroad

Vehicle holders are entitled to an annual charge refund for days when their vehicle operates solely abroad. Submit your application with trip controls within one year after the charge period ends. Amounts below 50 CHF are not refunded.

Refunds for trips in unaccompanied combined transport (UCT)

Trips leading up to and after UCT are those carried out by road vehicles with transport units (containers, swap bodies, trailers) between the point of loading/unloading and a transhipment station or the Rhine port.

Refunds for the transport of raw timber

You are entitled to a partial PSVA refund for vehicles subject to the PSVA that are used to transport raw timber (roundwood, wood for energy and industrial use, residual wood).

Fun fair and circus vehicles

Motor vehicles that are used by fun fairs and circuses exclusively to transport fun fair or circus equipment are entitled to a reduced-rate lump-sum assessment.

Export vehicles

A lump-sum charge is levied for provisionally registered vehicles that are intended for exportation.
