Be it the CO2 levy, mineral oil tax, tobacco duty or beer tax, Taxas is the modern, digital solution from the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security for the collection and refund of taxes and levies on goods subject to consumption tax. The platform simplifies processing in a transparent, efficient and legally compliant manner.
What is Taxas?
Taxas is the consumption tax platform of the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (FOCBS). The consumption tax platform is a digital system that centralises and automates consumption tax collection and refunds. It acts as an interface between companies that use goods subject to consumption tax or place them on the market and the FOCBS, which is responsible for enforcement. Taxas was rolled out in several stages from March 2021 onwards and is gradually replacing the previous systems and paper-based solutions.
The first step was the digital collection of beer tax, followed by the CO2 levy, refunds of which can be processed online since 1 January 2025. Various mineral oil tax refund scenarios went live on 1 July 2025, marking another milestone. Gradually, further refund types and collection processes will also go digital.
The collection and refund of the following levies and taxes can currently be processed:
Advantages of Taxas
- Tax/goods declarations and refund requests can be submitted seamlessly
- Greater transparency, as it is clear which declarations have already been submitted and which have not
- Centralised management of contact details; no need to submit reports to various units within the FOCBS
- Declarations can be submitted online 24/7
- Central filing and submission: all in one place
How do I use Taxas?
You can access Taxas via the federal ePortal. One-off registration in the federal ePortal is required in order to use Taxas.
Registration in ePortal
To use Taxas, you need a personal login on the federal ePortal and a company registered as a business partner. Please register your company as a business partner using the official UID. The registration process is documented in detail here.
Depending on the type of business partnership with the FOCBS, the company needs different business partner roles. These are described here. Individual business partners can have several business partner roles.
You can check your company's data at any time in the FOCBS business partner management, and change it if necessary.
Several users can be registered for one company. They must be invited by the company's administrator. Instructions can be found on the following website: User administration in ePortal.
Obtaining documents
Assessment decisions and other documents for your business partner can be found in Chartera Output, which is the central application for obtaining all documents from FOCBS services in ePortal.
ePortal mailbox
If the FOCBS requires documents from you or makes documents available to you, you will receive the relevant information in your ePortal inbox. You can specify in your user profile how you would like to be informed about such notifications. You can choose between email and text message. You will receive an email like the one below from ePortal.
If you do not receive an email, please check your spam folder.
Collection with Taxas
Companies that place goods subject to consumption tax, e.g. mineral oil products, tobacco products and alcoholic beverages, on the domestic market will be able to fulfil their tax obligations directly via the platform in the future.
Taxas enables structured and digital recording of the relevant quantities and facts. Data is entered in a user-friendly manner using structured input screens or directly via interfaces. This is supported by automated checking mechanisms that ensure the quality and completeness of the data provided. This not only makes tax collection more transparent, but also saves time and resources.
In the future, taxpayers liable for tobacco duty or mineral oil tax will be able to upload XML format goods declarations, stock ledger reports and stock reports directly from their internal system via the B2B hub or via Taxas, or enter the data manually in the application. The manual entry option will be available to beer manufacturers and importers.
Refunds with Taxas
After logging into Taxas, users are taken directly to the overview page, which displays all submitted requests in a compact and structured manner. This first page acts as a central interface, where existing requests can be conveniently filtered, searched and managed – by request period, request type or status, for example.
New requests can be submitted at any time using the "Add new" function.

Further functions can be found directly in the request via the "Action" button.
