Requirements for customs relief
Animal feed preparations classified under customs tariff numbers 2309.9081, 2309.9082 or 2309.9089 can only be imported into Switzerland with tariff relief if they have a very low energy content in relation to daily feed requirements and serve a clearly defined purpose:
- The products must cover less than 0.5 per cent of an animal's daily feed requirement; and
- be used in Switzerland as a technical additive for agricultural livestock.
Agricultural livestock is defined as animals of the equine, bovine, sheep, goat and pig species, as well as rabbits and domestic poultry.
In addition, all other requirements for the import of goods with customs relief, depending on type of use, must be met. An overview is provided in Regulation 17-00 (see at the bottom of the page under "Further information").
Procedure
To qualify for customs relief, you must obtain confirmation that the energy content is less than 0.5 per cent before making your first customs declaration.
You can apply for this confirmation from the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (FOCBS). The energy content is assessed by Agroscope on behalf of the FOCBS.
Please send the completed request form (PDF, 373 kB, 19.08.2025) together with the other required documents by e-mail to wirtschaft@bazg.admin.ch.
Important: The tariff classification of the product in question will not be checked during the assessment and must be determined by you in advance.
If you not already have an end-use commitment in accordance with the applicable customs regulations, the submitted request form also counts as a request for issuance of this commitment.
You will need an activated business partner ID in order to issue the confirmation.
Information on how to apply for and activate your business partner ID can be found at: "Registration for Swiss Customs digital services in the ePortal (onboarding)".
Please notify the FOCBS immediately of any changes relating to the confirmations issued.
