The definition of technical terms, the implementation of surveys and the calculations are explained under methodology. The metadata contains specific information on the relevant classifications, e.g. the product groups.
The standards used to compile foreign trade statistics are defined internationally and controlled by the UN (International Merchandise Trade Statistics IMTS). Under the bilateral agreement with the EU, Swiss methodology was harmonised with the European one.
