HVC calculation
The HVC is calculated on the basis of the kilometres driven within the Swiss customs territory, the relevant total weight, and the emission level.
Sample HVC calculation:
Relevant HVC weight
The maximum permissible laden weight entered in the vehicle registration document is relevant for calculating the performance-related charge (Arts. 5 and 6 of the HVCO).
Where the maximum permissible laden weight is as follows:
- for articulated vehicles licensed as a unit:
- the maximum permissible laden weight of the unit as entered in the vehicle registration document
- for articulated vehicles where the articulated lorry and semi-trailer are licensed separately:
- the sum of the following weights entered in the vehicle registration document: unloaded weight and the maximum permissible laden weight of the semi-trailer;
- if only the semi-trailer is subject to the charge, only the total weight of the semi-trailer is relevant
- for other combinations of two vehicles subject to the charge:
- the sum of the following weights entered in the vehicle registration document: the maximum permissible laden weight of the vehicle and that of the trailer
- if the relevant weight is higher than the maximum permissible total combined weight, the total combined weight shall be considered the relevant weight
- the relevant weight shall in any case be at most 40 tonnes
