Fuel cards for diplomats

In accordance with Article 30 of the Ordinance of 23 August 1989 on customs privileges for diplomatic missions in Bern and consular posts in Switzerland (SR 631.144.0) and Article 28 of the Ordinance of 13 November 1985 on customs privileges for international organisations, states in their relations with these organisations and special missions of foreign states (SR 631.145.0), the institutional and individual beneficiaries referred to in Article 2 of the Federal Host State Act of 22 June 2007 (HSA; SR 192.12) are entitled to tax-free fuel.

Until now, tax-free fuel cards could be obtained by completing the form generated via application 15.52/15.54.

Since 1 January 2026, a new procedure has enabled fuel distributors and service providers previously approved by the Federal Customs and Border Security Office (FOCBS) to supply tax-free fuel.

The request for a tax-free fuel card is made directly to the distributor or service provider chosen by the beneficiaries.

For this purpose, fuel distributors and service providers publish two application forms on their websites: one for private vehicles and one for official vehicles.

The list of approved distributors and service providers, a FAQ and a detailed explanation of the new procedure can be found under the heading “Further information” at the bottom of the page.
