E-Vignette and adhesive vignette
The motorway charge is payable either by registering the vehicle's licence plate through the FOCBS Via Portal (e-vignette.ch) or by purchasing a traditional adhesive vignette. The vignette is valid from 1 December of the previous year until 31 January of the following year and costs CHF 40.
The motorway charge applies to all motor vehicles and trailers registered in Switzerland or abroad that are not subject to the heavy vehicle charge. The obligation to have a vignette generally applies to all motor vehicles and trailers weighing up to 3.5 tonnes.

Two products - one system
The vignette is available either in digital form as an e-vignette or in physical form as an adhesive vignette. The only difference in their use is that the adhesive vignette is linked to the vehicle, whereas the e-vignette is linked to the vehicle's licence plate.
e-vignette
The e-vignette can be purchased by registering the vehicle's licence plate via the Via Portal. The easiest way to access the portal is through the short URL e-vignette.ch.
To purchase an e-vignette, only the following information is required:
- vehicle category;
- country of registration;
- number plate.
Because the e-vignette is linked to the vehicle's licence plate and registered digitally, it offers several advantages for vehicle owners. It can be purchased at any time and from anywhere. For vehicles using interchangeable licence plates, only one e-vignette is required instead of purchasing a separate adhesive vignette for each vehicle.
The sale price of the e-vignette through the Via Portal is CHF 40. The actual purchase price outside Switzerland depends on the current exchange rate and any fees charged by the credit card provider.
