Advertising

The Alcohol Act permits only product-related advertising for spirits and beverages containing spirits. The portrayal of a positive lifestyle is not allowed. In addition, all forms of discounts and special offers are prohibited.

Review of advertising drafts

The Alcohol Sector (ALK) of the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security FOCBS examines whether alcohol advertisements (before publication) comply with the provisions on advertising in the Alcohol Act. You can enter your advertising drafts in the "Advertisement submission" submenu and send them to us. After their evaluation, you will receive a report by email with the result of the review within 30 days.

Advertising provisions for other alcoholic beverages

Because fermented beverages such as wine, cider, perry, sparkling wine, champagne and beer are not subject to the Alcohol Act, they are not affected by the aforementioned advertising provisions.

Provisions for alcoholic beverages can also be found in the Ordinance on Foodstuffs and Utility Articles (Art. 42 and 43), which prohibits advertising for alcoholic beverages aimed at under 18s, among other things. The cantons are responsible for the implementation and checking of these advertising provisions.
