In 2020, Switzerland imported 749,808 pairs of rubber boots. China and Italy are the main suppliers and together account for 82% of the total volume. Their share has increased by more than 10 percentage points since 2010. (01.11.2021)

Tennis balls

Two countries accounted for over 80% of about 8 million tennis balls imported into Switzerland in 2020: 55% of the balls came from Thailand, which has been the main supplier for over a decade, and 28% from China. (01.09.2021)

Fishing rods

Swiss waters attract many anglers. 45,684 fishing rods were imported in 2020, with three quarters of them coming from China. An imported fishing rod cost an average of CHF 30 when it crossed the border. (01.08.2021)




In 2020, 4.3 million pairs of sunglasses worth CHF 110 million were imported into Switzerland. Almost three quarters of them came from China. In terms of value, however, Italy was the front-runner with a 38% share. (01.07.2021)

Strawberry season is in full swing. In 2020, Switzerland imported 14,282 tonnes of strawberries, with over half delivered in the peak months of March and April. 70% of the imported strawberries came from Spain. (01.06.2021)




In 2020, Switzerland imported 2.3 million laptops worth CHF 1.4 billion. This is the highest value registered so far; as regards units, however, a record number of devices was imported in 2014. (01.05.2021)

In total, 8 807 tonnes of asparagus were imported into Switzerland in 2020. Spain has been the main supplier since 2012. Last year, it accounted for almost half of all imported asparagus. (01.04.2021)




In the year of Brexit, the UK remained our sixth largest market: in 2020, Switzerland exported goods worth CHF 7.8 billion to the UK. Chemical and pharmaceutical products accounted for more than one third of this figure. (01.03.2021)

In 2020, Switzerland imported 11 413 tons of kiwi fruit, or 1.3 kg per person. Italy was the largest supplier with a share of 50.5%, followed by New Zealand with 30.6%. (01.02.2021)
