Declaring goods

Assessment of merchandise for final export

Goods which are destined for final export from the Swiss customs territory must be declared to Swiss customs for exportation.

The tariff numbers and information on bans, restrictions and authorisation for specific goods can be found in the Electronic Customs Tariff - Tares, In the corresponding search window, please select "Export" as the direction and also select the destination country. Any conditions (e.g. approval requirements) are to be found under "Comments".

No duties are payable when the export assessment takes place because there are no export customs duties.

If required, haulage companies and customs clearance agencies will draw up customs declarations for a fee. Prior to exportation, please clarify which company will be dealing with the customs clearance. The FOCBS is unable to provide recommendations regarding firms or agencies.

Electronic customs declaration for export assessment

So that those subject to the declaration obligation (e.g. haulage companies and customs agents) can carry out electronic customs declarations, these must have been authorised by the Directorate General of Customs. Information on electronic export customs declarations can be found at the following links: NCTS or e-dec export.

Accompanying documents

Present the corresponding accompanying documents with the export customs declaration. The most important accompanying documents are invoices, any proof of origin and authorisations/certificates, official confirmations and analysis certificates.

Depending on the case, freight documents, shipping notes, manifests, weight certificates or assessment instructions are helpful.

Our opening hours and addresses

Please note the customs office opening hours for the declaration (customs clearance) of merchandise. Declarations can be made from Monday to Friday during clearance hours; some customs offices are also open on Saturday mornings.

The detailed opening hours are available in the list of customs offices.
