Goods imported into or exported from Switzerland, as well all those in transit through the country, must be declared to the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (FOCBS) via a written form or online. The following information explains the procedure for declaring goods.
- Exchange rates - Calculating the value of imported goods
When declaring goods with the FOCBS, you must convert their price or estimated value into Swiss francs. The exchange rate applied is that quoted on the last trading day before the import tax liability arose (usually the preceding day).
- CSP account
We advise all importers and carriers who have to pay duties on imported goods to make use of the FCA's centralised settlement procedure (CSP). This allows account holders to make a cashless payment of customs duties.
